The Scientilic American announces that it will direct an attempt to convert quicksilver into gold j n experiments already under wav by Professor Sheldon, of the New York University. Professor Sheldon’s efforts will consist of an attempt to confirm try "a different process the results achieved Tiy Professor Adolph Mietlie, of Berlin. A duplicate of Professor Mietlie’s apparatus has been .sent to New York. It comprises a quartz lamp and electric paraphernalia. The theory i* that'a current of 170 volts and an undetermined samperage will crack the atoms of quicksilver, leaving gold. Professor Mietlie recently said that his discovery would have no immediate effect on the value of gold because of the excessive cost of production.
