GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.
GARDEN PARTY. Notwithstanding: the heavy shower which fell on Saturday afternoon, the garden party which was held in the Girls’ High School grounds in aid of the assembly hall fund was most successful and the takings amounted to over £BO. Among the stails was the Christinas gift and novelty, which was conducted by the’following ex-pupils: .Mieses M. Bennett, K. and P. Nash, D. Eergusscn, M. Wilson, and Misses \\ ilton, B. Andrews and G. Scott. The competitions attracted much interest, being well patronised. The golf putting and target croquet competitions were both won by Trevor Lguisson and the nail driving by Mr Rimeon. The prizes in the other competitions were awarded to the winners at the close of each event, no record being kept of tiie names of those successful. Mr ,J. A. Nash, M.P., presented the prizes and in a brief speech expressed his appreciation of tfle large- measure of patronage accorded the effort on behalf of the assembly fund which tyas, he said, a most worthy object, lie referred, also, to the need of a hostel for the school.
Afternoon tea was in charge of Miss Simkin and Mis.; Crawford, who were assisted by 40 pupils. As a result of the function the fund will benefit considerably.
