Mr P. E. Baldwin to-day underwent a successful operation for appendicitis. His friends will be pleased, to learn that lie is doing- as well us can be expected. Tha many friends of Colonel It. J. Collins will learn with regret that he is critically ill. Last night there was little improvement in his condition (states the Dominioii).

Constable F. C. Harrison; who has been for a number of years on the Petone police staff, has been promoted to oftieer-in-chargo of the Kaiti Police Station, Gisborne.

llis Lordship, tile Bishop of Wellington, Rt. Rev. Hr. Sprott. who conducted confirmation services in Palmerston North yesterday, returned to Wellington by to-day’s Main Trunk express. The Prime Minister, Rt. ITon. W. F. Massey, accompanied by bis private secretary, .Mr F. D. Thomson, was a passenger for Wellington by this morning’s Main Trunk express. Mr J. A, Nash, M.P., met the Premier at the station. In connection with the jubilee of the Wellington College it is interesting to note that the late Mr Kenneth Wilson, M.A., of Palmerston North, was headmaster from 1374 to 1881. Mr C. E. Robertson, who recently visited the Argentine where lie attended the Palermo show, returned to New Zealand the other day. After spending two months in South America, Mr Robertson proceeded to the Un d States and Canada, and while there attenujd the National Horse Show at New York, and the Pacific International Live Stock Exposition at Portland.

The Rev. Peter Milne, who died last week at Nguna, New Hebrides, was born at Stains, Aberdeen, on 17tti May. 1834. He was licensed by the Free Church Presbytery of Edinburgh in 1868 and ordained on 26th November of that, year. On 19th July, 1870. he und his„ wife settled on Nguna. His record of service is very remarkable. Within seven years, from 1883 to 1890, the number of communicant members increased from forty to 8000. of whom 433 were admitted in 1839. Mrs Milne died in 1908. Three of Mr Milne's family are missionaries, the Rev. W. V. Milne, of New Hebrides. Mrs Riddle, of Punjab, and Mrs Anderson, of New Hebrides. Other members of the family include l)r. D. &. Milne, of Pleasant Point, and Dr. P. Milne, of Kenya, Africa.
