The deceased gentleman- was one of the original piomotefs of the Makerua banking S chen.e over three ago.^pd "He"w uL iSn of. the Manawatm Oroua River Board, a position he had he d from the inception of that bod\, There was no more ardent worker for. tf.e progress ami development of the district than Mr Bell whose interests were man}. At the time of his death he was managing-director of both the Whitaunui flaxmills at Moutoa and Tokomaru, and was a former vicepresident and president of the New Zealand Flaxmillers’ Association. He was also, m 1919 a member of the general committee of the Maiiawatu A. and P Association. Possessed of a genial and kindly disposition the late Mr Bell endeared himself to all with whom he came in contact. He was widely popular and enjoyed a high reputation as a business man. He had always enjoyed good health, and his sudden and fatal illness came as a great shock to a wide circle of friends The deceased leaves a widow and one daughter, Miss Sjbil BUI, to mourn their loss.
