ENGLISHMEN IN AFRICA. CAPETOWN. Nov. 27. In the cricket match between England and Pretoria the Englishmen in their first innings made 199—Nicholas 54. Pretoria, in the second innings, had two wickets down for 50 when rain caused abandonment of play.—A. and N.Z. cable. Pretoria made 255 in their first innings. SCHOOL MATCH AT OAMARU. Per Press Association. OAMARU, Nov. 28. Tn the annual cricket match here to-day, Waitaki High School defeated Otago Boys’ High School by seven wickets. Otago made 159 and 100 and Waitaki 201 and 59 for three wickets. SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. SYDNEY, Nov. 28. The Sheffield Shield match, New South Wales v. South Australia, commenced in fine weather on a perfect wicket. New South Wales won the toss and batted, and lias lost 4 for 312—Rock 127, Andrews 99, Kippax not out 21, Ratcliffe 29. Rock opened the innings and batted confidently, scoring at a fast rate. He gave one chance, but played delightful cricket, a feature of the innings being his driving, which frequently rattled the palings. Andrews batted vigorously, presenting sparkling cricket, and bis partnership with Rock put on 184. ’ The South Australian fielding was not up to the standard, as the men were suffering from the effects of the Melbourne match and the train journey.—Press Association.
