ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
(To the Editor.) Sir —Would you ullow me, through the medium of your valuable paper, to voice my disapproval of the way the selection committee of the Alanawatu Football Association are selecting their team to play the Chinese? Not in all my football days have I ever heard of four men being selected before the game and the remainder having to fight for their positions Is it fair to the remainder of the men who are asked to play on Saturday ? Ihesc four men who have been selected, can. playjust’ as they like next Saturday; whether they play a good or a bad game makes no difference to them, their positions are assured; and I am sure the men playing in the positions opposite will not care, and what of the remainder of the men who have an eye on the game on Wednesday" Would it not have been better to have kept those four names back until after Saturday and let everyone vvho is taking part m the trial think that he was playing for his position ? Another thing, do the selectors think it right to change the teams as they did in the last tna game and then shout their names out nil over tho playing pitch (i.e., tho selected fifteen to go into training) ? It was not very-business-like. And yet another thing has cropped up. Why are the selectors chopping the lift wing about? lucker, who was tho best man in that position in the lust trial game, is getting his nose pushed out and a man substituted who has been pluying full-back. If persisted in, this sort of tiling will very soon kill what little is left of the good old ganio in the Alanawatu. It seems as though they are not going to serve up tile best footballers in the district, but arc going to depend on one team to supply all tho talent. it so why not put the whole team ill arid let the remainder of the young sports be contented with an invitation to stand by and watch the game, and perhaps go to the concert at night ?—I am, etc., OF F SIDE. Palmerston North, July 23.
