NARROW ESCAPE.

MISHAP TO A MOTOR-CAR. NELSON, July 22. Robert Henry and his son William, of Stepncyville, had a miraculous escape from serious' accident about 5.30 last evening. They were returning home in a car. driven by William, and when some distance up (ho steep pinch at Stepneyville something went wrong with the gear, and the car went backwards, crashed through the fence behind Mr Murray’s residence, and came to a stop in a perpendicular position in the backyard. The rear portion of Mr Murray’s residence is but a few feet from the Stepney ville .road, and there was just room for the car to fall in between it, and the concrete wall which protects tho bank. The roof of the house broke the fall of the car to some extent, as the hood was fortunately up. Had tho accident occurred a short distance further down the road there would have been a sheer fall of some twenty feet, and the consequences to the occupants would no doubt have been very serious. As it was, however, neither father nor son suffered in any way beyond a severe shook. The hood of the car was wrecked and the body was more or less damaged. Mr Murray was in his backyard when the car went over, and just managed to step clear.
