SLIPS ON RAILWAY.
EXPRESS TRAINS DELAYED. SEVERAL HOURS BEHIND TIME. Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, June 25. A slip on the railway line near Mangaweka yesterday delayed the trains from the sottlh, the express being held up for over an hour. A big slip came down in a cutting just south of the Mataroa station this morning, and the train which left Taihape had to return. The express had been held up at Mataroa for over live hours. Some of the pasrengers came on to Taihape by car and breakfasted here. The Department arranged for the passengers to breakfast at Taihape, but the train had not arrived by noon and the passengers will now probably have to lunch here when the train arrives. ft was expected that the slip would be cleared in three hours, but trouble was experienced on account of tho wet nature of the soil. The line south of Taihape is now clear and the rain has ceased. A notice posted tit the Palmerston North railway station this morning advised that the train from Auckland would be three hours late, but apparently the slip was either more extensive than at first believed or a further fall of earth had occurred, lor early this afternoon it was stated that the express was running six hours behind time-table time.
