ARMED ROBBER.

MAN BAILED UP. £l5O TAKEN. SYDNEY, May 31. Bailed up at the point of the revolver, one of the proprietors of a big dve and cleaning works at' Paddington was robbed to-day of the firm's weekly pay—about £l5O. A chase ensued, in which the thief fired a shot at the proprietor. The bullet went wide. An arrest was mado in a house in McLean street, Paddington, a little lata. The man, who was robbed was William Stark, one of the proprietors of Stark Bros., Ltd., dyers, cleaners, and laundrymen, at the corner of Cascade street and Glenmoro road. At midday Mr Stark went to the Comomnwealth Bank in the city, and drew the week's pay for the staff, consisting of notes and silver. He took a tram at King street after leaving the bank, and alighted at the Glenmore road shop. He had walked down Glenmore-road to within about 100 yards of his premises, when a man, coming in the opposite direction, stopped about three yards m front of him and demanded the bag in which Mr Stark carried the money. "Give me that bag!" he said. 1 will count five. Bass it over!" Mr Stark, however, refused to part with the bag The "thief then said: "I will shoot you." "You can do that if you like, responded Mr Stark. "1 won't give it to you." Seeing that the man was determined, Mr Stark offered him £5 if he would go about his business. The man told him to hand over the £5, but when Mr Stark suggested that they should step into a doorway while he got the £5 out 'of the bag, the man immediately grappled with him and wrested the bag from his hand. Ihen he ran up tho street with it. THE CHASE. Mr Stark gave chase, and while they were running acros a small park, the thief turned and fired a shot. It had no effect, and Mr Stark does not know whether it went close to him or not. The thief ran up Cameron street, and Mr Stark losing sight of him went into a shop and telephoned the police. Meanwhile, a woman, who had been sitting in a motor car, and who saw the hold-up, motored to the Paddington police station and brought back several policemen.
