M.L.A. ASSAULTED.

VIOLENT BLOW ON EYE. STORMY LABOUR MEETING. SYDNEY, May 27. A disorderly scene, in which Mr Stuart Robertson, M.L.A., had a narrow escape from losing the sight oi one eve, occurred at a meeting of the Camperdown branch of the A.L.P. last night. - . An undercurrent of anger, with frequent outbursts, marked the , proceedings The real trouble began, however, when Mr: Stuart Robertson's motion that a member be expelled from the branch was ruled out of order by the chairman. . Having succeeded m securing the suspension of the standing orders, Mr Stuart Robertson, moved that the executive be requested to allow members, who should have been transferred to the Kingston branch, to function as members of the Camperdown branch. . The chairman then declared the meeting closed, and the gathering broke into wild tumult. Mr Stuart Robertson's sons, two of whom were present, were in heated argument with a third man, when Mr Stuart Robertson tried the role of peacemaker. At this moment a man rushed into the hall and struck Mr Stuart Robertson a violent blow on the eye with what is alleged to have been the handle of a jack knife. The blow staggered him, and the intruder made his escape. • Bleeding freely, Mr Stuart Robertson walksed to the Prince Alfred Hospital, where it was found that the gold rim of his glasses had been driven into the flesh just above the eye. Beyond a black eye Mr Stuart Robertson looks little the worse for last night's melee.
