CHESS CLUB.
The regular weekly meeting of the Palmerston North Chess Club -was held last night, when there was a good attendance of members. In connection with the visit to New Zealand of Kontieli, the famous international player, it was decided to extend the club's invitation from one night to two nights. In a challenge match Gatley deposed Espiner from rung 10 of the club's ladder. Several other matches were played. Arrangements were made for the senior championship tournament, for which ten entries have been received. Nine members have entered for the junior sealed handicap tournev.
