EMPIRE'S SHIELD.

NAVY LEAGUE MESSAGE. PRINCE GEORGE'S TRIBUTE. LONDON, May 23. The Navy League in its Empire Day message says: "God grant .that the Empire may never look vainly to the navy for security in peace and protection in war. Imperial unity will not be imperilled as long as the navyis adequately maintained to safeguard communications. "Let us exercise eternal vigilance and see that its strength is never impaired for in that way only lies the safety of the Empire." Prince George receiving the freedom of London said his travels in the navy had brought home to him the truth of the hackneyed phrase "East, west, Home's best!" London was much more than a friendly town to which travellers were glad to return; it was the core of Britain's past and the centre of her great present. It was a place to which every looked affectionately. He was glad to be a citizen, not only of London, but of the great Empire.
