DAWBERS BEAT R.S.A. IN KEEN, FAST GAMIf. There was a record attendance for the season at North Street Park on Saturday, when the senior competition games were continued in fine weather, though the playing areas were wet after rain overnight and in the early morning. Interest centred mainly in the R.S.A.-Dawbers match and spectators were, treated to a keen, even game, and, although Dawbers ran out the winners, R.S.A. put up a more than creditable showing. Their goalkeeper, Jamieson, and full-back, Robson, had to retire, considerably weakening the team for a goodly portion of the game, and Dawbers lost Davis, who also retired in- ' jured. There was no wind, and the dull light favoured neither team in the matter of the direction of their field positions. From the kick-off Dawbors attacked, but the opposing forwards sent the ball back over midway, where play centred for some time, Robson's long kicks proving an effective item in R.S.A.'s rearguard defence. With surprising suddenness Dawbers got into scoring position with the defenders away from home, and Travels, accepting a centre from Hearsey at outside left, found the net.—Dawbera 1, R.S.A. nil. A minute later Gee, Bell and Contaur, in concert took the sphere to the Dawber goal-mouth, and two shots missed very narrowly. Then, with as much sur- £ rising suddenness as their first, came lawber's second goal. Again a quick rush to R.S.A.'s end found the goal-mouth open but for the goalie, and McLeod, accepting from Hart, cleverly tricked his man and shot home.—Dawbors 2, R.S.A. nil. For the next quarter of an hour Dawbors kept R.S.A. defending, and it looked as if the latter were not going to get moving. Hearsey made a great, solo run and had only the R.S.A. goalie to beat when Stevens out in thiry yards from the goal and blocked the shot. A free kick by Travers just skimmed the cross-bar, but this marked the turn of the tide, and after defending a little longer R.S.A. came away and broke through to Dowbers' end, where Bell put ono into the corner of the net from a piece of close work in front of the goal. Dawbors 2. R.S.A. 1. Heartened, the latter kept up the pressure, and in the exciting period which followed showed that there was no great disparity in the teams. Hart made a splendid shot at the R.S.A. goal after securing possession from a free kick, but Taylor was too safe. Almost immediately after, Gee centred from the right as R.S.A. went down field and Bell finalised a pretty piece of plav by a goal. Honours even —two all. DAWBERS' LUCKY GOAL. Shortly before the call of half-time Lovejoy (R.S.A.) mis-kicked, and sent the ball into his team's own goal, thus giving a further score to Dawbers. Dawbers 3, R.S.A. 2. In a determined effort to even up the unlucky point, R.S.A. opened up the second spell with a forward attack, but. Dawbers were sound, and through the agency of Hearsey and McLeod nearly scored, a shot striking the post. The retirement of the players previously mentioned left R.S.A. one short of their opponents' strength, and, although the game remained fairly even, Dawbers at times broke through in a dangerous manner. Yery soon, on one such occasion, Dawbers rallied round the R.S.A. goal, and, although the goalkeeper stopped several hot shots. Chapman finally found an easy opening and had onlv to push the goal in.—Dawbers 4, R.S.A. 2. Soon after Travers scored with an easy shot from some loose ' open play.—Dawbers 5, R.S.A. 2. Both sides exchanged attacks till the call of j time, the only further score being Tucker's, who finalised a movement by Lovejoy and Harding. The final score was: Dawbers 5, R.S.A. 3. Mr Crouch refereed. For Dawbers Hearsey, Travers, Askam and Whitehouse were outstanding, while Gee at outside right, Bell, Stevens and Robson showed up in the R.S.A. team. - ST. ANDREW'S BEAT FOXTON. The St. ' Andrew's-Foxton match commenced about twenty minutes after the scheduled time of starting owing to a laMge section') of the former team failing to turn up. However, St. Andrew's mustered a scratch team, including a number of boys and took the field below normal strength. Following the commencement of play, the match remained for a while fairly even, the ball for the most part being in the region of midficid until McKriight sent in a slanting shot at goal. The referee gave it as a score, though many who watched this piece of play averred that it just skimmed outside the posts.—Foxton 1, St. Andrew's nil. Soon after the latter launched an offensive and found the juveniles in their forward division much more adopt than might be expected. Dick got within range of the net and just failed to get home. Smith and Johnston indulged in a pretty piece of passing and the latter just failed, to equalise for St. Andrew's, but shortly after Miller, on the right, secured possession, cut in to the centre, and scored. Honours even. Before the end of the first spell, Johnston scored, making the position St. Andrew's 2, Foxton 1. In the second half there were many up and clown field rushes, and having regard to the fact that one at least was a scratch team, the play was not by any means devoid of interest. Johnston and Nixon added goals . for their respective teams, making the final scores: St. Andrew's 3, Foxton 2. Mr Itloine refereed. BOYS' COMPETITION. Only one game was played in the boys' competition, Rangers beating Scouts by 7 to nir. Anderson (4) and Kempson (3) were the scorers. Mr J. C, Young refereed. The games in Dunedin on Saturday resulted as follow:—Seacliff 1 v. Northern 1; Old Boys 3 y. Maori Hill 1: Mornington 2 v. Taieri 2; Southern 1 v. Kaitangata. 1. In the Olympic Games Association football semi-final Uruguay defeated Holland by 2 to 1 (states a cablegram from Paris). "in the first test match at Brisbane between Canada and Australia, the visitors were defeated by 3 s-oals to 2.
