No quotations for beef. Wethers, light, 6Jd to 7d; heavy, sid to 6*d; • ewes, 4id to 53d; lambs under 42's, 9Jd to 10Ad; over 42's, 9£d to 9|d; seconds, 9id to 9jd. FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE. RISK OF IMPORTING STOCK. PROHIBITION ADVOCATED. MORRINSVILLE, May 4. The advisability of prohibiting the importation of stock into New Zealand from countries where foot and mouth disease was known to exist was advocated at the meeting of the Piako County Council. The chairmun, Mr F. W. Walters, said the council, as a body of fanners, should consider the preventing of animals from the affected countries landing in New Zealand. If the disease got into the Dominion it would not be got rid of. He urged that the council should circulate the other councils to have legislation passed preventing the importation of animals from affected countries. He was also of opinion that racehorses should be prevented from being imported or exchanged from the affected countries. A motion was carried asking county councils to support a proposal as outlined by the chairman. It was also to send a copy of the resolution to the Minister for Agriculture.

In order to create a sanctuary for the Levanna moth, the Government has decided to cut down all cocoanut palms within the municipality of Levuka.
