WHITE AUSTRALIA.
LORD LEVERHULME’S CRITICISM A PERTINENT QUESTION, By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received February 1, 9.55 a.m. HOBART, Feb. 1. Lord Leverhulme, replying to the criticisms of his advocacy of negro labour fo» the Northern Territory, asks: “If, as contended by my opponents, it is a white man’s land, how is is that on the 136th anniversary of the discovery of Australia there are only 7000 people in the territory and over 6,000,000 in the rest of Australia, though the territory comprises onethird of the area of the continent?” Lord Leverhulme favours indentured negroes being barred from travelling south of the thirtieth degree of latitude, but in other respects having equal rights with whites.—Press Association.
