The New Zealand swimming championships were continued to-day, the results being as follow: 100 yards intermediate girls’ New Zealand championship. M. Jepson (Otago) 1, P. Page (Auckland) and M. J. At 100* yards, Atkinson led his opponents by a yard but from this point lie continued to draw away. When half the distance was covered, Atkinson had a lead of 25 yards from Hill, with Bradley five yards further away. Atkinson continued to increase his lead, and finally won by 32 yards, Hill defeating Bradley for second place by 15 yards. Time, 12.22 3-5. Polo.—Canterbury and 'Wellington drew, each scoring two goals. NEW WORLD’S RECORD. SYDNEY, Jan. 30. The swimming of a 100 yards test race to provide Borg with an opportunity of meeting local sprint champions, and to assist in the choice of a sprint representative for the championships in Melbourne, resulted in Borg and Herald swimming a dead heat, with Carbury third. The time was 55sec. In au exhibition swim over 000 metres, Charlton established an Australian and New Zealand record in 6min 46sec. The State mile championship resulted in Borg winning from Christie, with Springfield (Queensland) and Huntly, a dead heat for third. Borg led all the way and won by 120 yards, or one lap. The time was 22min 23sec, a world's record. [The previous world’s record for a mile was 23min 34)sec, made by G. R. Hodgson, of Canada, in July, 1912.]
