FARMERS’ UNION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 30. A meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers Union is being held to-day, the president (Mr W. J. Poison) presiding. The Christchurch, Otago, Blenheim, Manawatu, Wellington, Pelorus, Southern Hawke’s Bay, Nelson, Southland, Wairarapa, aud Marton branches are represented. . A letter was read from the provincial secretary, Ashburton, stating that the average price of fowl wheat at Ashburton was not considered excessive, being generally above Is per bushel below the milling quality. Some of the members put the position from the poultrymen’s point of view. It was urged that there could be no good reason for preventing poultry wheat being obtained from Australia. Mr Leadley (chairman of the Whea» Board) made a statement in committee in which he outlined the present position and the probable intentions of the authorities so far as fowl wheat was concerned. Other members considered it wrong that there should be any embargo on imported wheat. It was finally resolved that a committee consider the question and report to the meeting later.
