WAVE OF SOCIALISM.
SWEEPING OVER EUROPE. PARIS, Jan. 28. Liberte publishes a table showing the percentages of Socialist membership in European Parliaments, which tends to confirm the! widely held view that a wave of Socialism is sweeping over Europe, owing to popular discontent. The table shows that Sweden has a percentage of 40.4 ; Austria, 40.2, Germany 37.7, Belgium 36.6, Czecho-Slo-vakia 28, Switzerland 21.7, Holland 20, Denmark 32, Britain 39.9, while France has only 8.6 and Italy 7.7. Liberte adds: “The Red peril does not appear to be very menacing in France, but if we do not take care we may witness a progress the same as there has been in England, where there were nine Socialist members in 1900, and where there are now 192. When that day comes, our Socialists will remember they are revolutionaries and will seek to hold on to power by revolutionary means.”—A. and N.Z. cable.
