TAUGHT A SEVERE LESSON,
By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright. Received January 30, 9.55 a.m. BAGDAD, Jan. 28. Forty defiant Mesopotamian sheiks were summoned to meet the Government, but only three responded, In view of the necessity of the safety of visiting officials, and to prevent warlike preparations, the Government ordered an air action. The air force moved forward and tvhile troops protected the aerodrome the aeroplanes bombed continuously for 24 hours. All the sheiks then surrendered. Mounted police visited the other districts and received the other sheiks’ assurances of implicit obedience to the Government.—A. and N.Z. cable.
