SPORTING.

MANAWATU R. 0. MEETING.

SECOND DAY.

BONETTER TAKES BIG RACE,

The Manawatu Racing Club was favoured with glorious weather for the second day’s racing, consequently a largo attendance of racing folk put in an appearance at Awapuni, and they were rewarded with an excellent afternoon’s sport, the finishes in the various events being equally as interesting as on the previous day. Mr J. D. Donovan, who officiated as starter for, the first time at this fixture, did excellent work, while a word of praise is due to the judge, Mr C. .11, Washer, whoso numbers in all the events wore correctly hoisted. There was a falling off in the totalisator receipts, the sum of £34,805 being put through flie machines as compared with £37,439 for the second day last year. The contest for the President’s Handicap was interesting throughout, tho field being well together! Bonettor won nicely from Scotch Mixture, the win being a popular one. There was nothing very exciting in reference to the running of tho Palmerston North Stakes, for Tamatoto was never extended at any part of the race. Rational, which is also a speedy customer, got hung up in the tapes and lost several lengths. He made up leeway in attractive fashion and secured second honours, but in any case his prospects of defeating the winner were small. Tho locally-owned _ Sensible and Santiago scored papular victories in the Kelvin and Highweight Handicaps respectively. Zero Hour upset all calculations in the Terraco Welter, arid his supporters came in for a substantial dividend.
