Mr Justice Adams, of Christchurch, is reported to have considerably improved in health. He is on leave for three months. Mr J. B. Ferguson, of Balt street, is at present at the hot springs at Morero, Wairoa, where he is undergoing treatment. His Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Jellicoe, has consented to unveil a war. memorial at Little River on November Bth. Mr Hugh Morrison, of Masterton, and Mr J. Fraser, of Lawrence, have been elected life members of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mr 0. P. Lynch is attending a meeting in Wellington of tho Dominion executive of the Farmers’ Union as the representative of Mahawatu. The engagement is announced of Miss Nancy Williams, daughter of Dr. and Mrs John Williams, of Gisborne, to Mr Brian Keiller, of Palmerston North. A London cablegram states that the Queen’s University, Belfast, has written to Mr Massey asking him to accept a Doctorship of Laws. Mr and Mrs Arthur Russell, of Palmerston North, and the Misses Russell will be leaving England next month on their return to the Dominion. A. Sydney message states that Dame Margaret Davidson and her daughters, who will be sailing to-morrow for England, have been larewelled by a constant stream of callers. The Right Hon. Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice has improved considerably in health since his recent indisposition, though His Honour is still suffering from throat trouble. At a meeting of the congregation of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church, it was decided to extend a call to tho Rev. James Hay, a licentiate of the Hawke’s -bay Presbytery. On Saturday last at St. Mark’s Church, Wellington, the wedding was celebrated of Miss Jean Rapley, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. W, Rapley, and sister of Mr S. W. Rapley, of Palmerston North, to Mr George Vincent Cornwall, of Melbourne. The Rev. S. Morris, after three months’ leave of absence on account of his health,, has returned to Dunedin, and resumed his duties in charge of the North-East Valley Baptist Church. Tho engagement is announced of Miss Betty Blechynden, youngest daughter of Mr' and Mrs R. U. Blechynden, of Palmerston Nortli. to Mr G. W. Sollitt, youngest son of Mrs and 1 the late Mr Frank Sollitt, of Broad slfeet, Palmerston North. • The Rev. J. Cocker, who retired last year from active work in the Methodist ministry owing to a breakdown in health, intends making his home in Masterton. Mr Cocker has considerably improved in health. The Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Wednesday passed resolutions of condolence with Mr Livingstone, a member of the advisory committee, who recently lost his wife, and with Sir James Wilson, whose son died recently, Mrs Christine Lankenau, aged 100 years, died at Torrens Park, near Adelaide, recently. She arrived in South Australia from Clusthal, in tho Hartz Mountains, Germany, 84 years ago when the colony was three years old, Almost until the last few days. Mrs Lankenau was physically and mentally • alert. * The Rev. G. T, and Mrs Brown returned from the south on Wednesday. Mr Brown has greatly benefited by his holiday, which has done much to throw off tho effects of the cycling mishap that he met with some time ago. The reverend gentleman will not, however, occupy the pulpit at St. Andrew’s till Sunday, November 4. Ho purposes spending this week-end at Dannevirke. Mr H. J. Edwards, of the staff of tho local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is under notice of transfer to Kaponga, During the past two years Mr Edwards has, in the capacity of secretary, worked assiduously in the interests of the local branch of the Bank Officers’ Guild, and last night the members presented him with a solid leather suit-case, as a token of appreciation of his services and a mark of the esteem in which hs is held. Mr Edwards’ position in tho local branch will be filled by Mr McGibbon, of Christchurch.
