NORTHERN CLUB'S ANNUAL' ' MEETING.

The' socortd' atoriual meeting of the Northern Bowling,- Tennis and Croquet Club was held last night. Tho president (Mr' T. R>. Hodder) presided over a good attendance of UWBfIJWS, and expressed, his pleasure at tho large nuiiibW \vhd' had attended the meeting. The prospects fof the coming season, he. said, were bright, only fine : being needed to ensure success. Mr Hodder also briefly" alluded to the rapid growth and progress of-the club siriee it* inception. The annual report arid balancesheet as. published were read and adopted. In conclusion, he made an appeal to members to endeavour to increase their numbers. The section reports were then read and adopted, The bowling section chronicled a successful season during which the Manaw'atu Bowling Centre had held a number of gala days; A visit; from the Queensland bowling team had been an enjoyable event. The report concluded with an appeal for increased membership and. mention of the faot that Messrs C. U. Allan and P. Larcomb had donated a set of ferns and feathers respectively for competition during the coming season. The cliib,bowlers had also been twice successful in winning the Dixon Cup last season. The report of the croquet division showed that in that department also good progress had been made. Matches had been played against Feildmg, Hunterville, Terrace End and Woodville. Members had acquitted themselves creditably in the- important tournament held at the latter part of last s6asoii at Palinerston North. Graham; sectional secretaries, Mr P. Larcomb (bowling), Mrs L. J. BulHcroqnet) and Mr A. McGregor (tennis); delegates to mana-; w'atu Bowling- Centre, Slessrs T. R. Hodder and* L. R. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks to Sir G. Baileyj greenkeeper, convoying the club's thanks for the excellent condition in which he had maintained the playing areas last year. ti' Bailey, who was also re-appointed an honorary" member, was made the subject' of highly eulogistic references by several' members. It was decided to open the greens on September 22, subject to the approval of the borough curator.' In future the annual meeting, it was resolved, shall be held in August or September at the discretion of the executive.
