THE METHODIST MISSION.

"THE FACT. OF REDEMPTION."

Interest continue? unabated in the above fission of instruction and appeal. This Ivas evidenced by the large congregation which .was present last night bt St. Paul's Church, when the Rev. Harold T. Peat upon the subject, "The Fact of Redemption." After referring to the preceding subjects as foundational :o the one in hand, the preacher defined redemption as the glorious consummation of the work of Jesus Christ. The fact of redemption actualized on Calvary, looked backward to

Eden and onward to Heaven. The necessity for'redemption was realised in Eden. The joys of redemption are fully consummated in glory. As Governor of the moral universe God presented certain laws for the guidance of men, and in the interests of man's''eternal welfare. These laws .are, as it were, the outbreaking of God's nature. It is impossible to conceive of these laws being different from what they are. God said: "Obey and you shall live, disobey and.you shall die." The Bible revealed two - - men, Adam and Christ. Christ assumod man's nature. His twofold nature made' his fulfilment of the law imputable. He was man and He was God Had Christ been merely man all His righteousness would have been necessary for His own justification. A man could be no real subetitute for men. Only the Divine Son of ■ God could atone for human sin. Having no ■jin in Himself His sacrifice created a moral value for man, extra and to spare. On the fcasis of substitution God declared He would pardon and accept all who trust His Son; thus the moral law of God was satisfied. The fruits of redemption were pardon, i adoption and justification. The redemption Christ had wrought was freely offered, and the preacher concluded with an impressive plea for the acceptance of the benefits made accessible through the glorious fact of redemption. Miss Nellie Killick gave a very sympathetic rendering of tlu solo, "Come Sinner Come." Miss Maisie Bennett presided ut the organ, and the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt Ted the devotional portion of the service. To-night "The Fact of Conversion" will fce dealt with at St. Paul's by the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt.
