EXPANDING BUTTER OUTPUT. RECEIPTS AT GRADING STORE. AUCKLAND,. Sept. 7. The new dairying, season in the Auckland district, is giving every indication of. equalling if not surpassing the record production of last season provided favourable conditions provail The available figures point to a renewed impetus to buttor production. In the Auckland province the output for the first two months of tlie season lias eclipsed that of the corresponding period of last season by approximately 10.000 boxes. From Ist July to 31st August this year, 68,793 boxes of butter ware, received; at the grading jstores, .compared with. 58,724 for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 10,069. Tlie ratio of increase is. not nearly so great as tha phenomenally high ratio maintained last season, yet it represents a material expansion in the. industry. It: should bo noted, that in July the output, was retarded somewhat, by tho severe win-; tor conditions, so.-that the increase recorded to date was produced solely, in tho last four weeks. Tho number of boxes received at tho grading stores during August was. 56,959, compared: with 44,610 during August, 1922, on increase of 12,349. HIGH PRICES FOR CHEESE.

Following the advance in quotations for cheese on tho London market it has been reported tliat several sales at satisfactory prices have been made in Taranaki during the past few days for the .output from August to- November inclusive. In a number of cases sales have been made at lOd per lb, and lOid is reported to have been accepted. On a butter fat basis the roturn to farmers on the quotation; mentioned should be Is. lOd to Is 10Jd per lb. Directors of Cardiff .factory .turned down IOJd for cheese, electing to consign offers for Soptember. Octo-ber-November outputs of cheese from Taranaki factories have been received and range from 9d to lOid. Some factories are indisposed to accept lOid. Inquiries are being made in Taranaki for butter at from Is 6|d to Is 6Jd, but' sellers are shy. These prices are for September to November shipments.. The Director of the Dairy Division, of tho Department of Agriculture, reports the following figures for the month of August: , , 1922 1923 Tons. Tons.
