o SIR C. HAWTREY EULOGISED. LONDON, Aug. 5. "In a world full of tears he gave us clean, fresh laughter that left no sting behind it," said Canon J. O. Hannay, preaching to-day at the memorial service for the late Sir Charles Hawtrey, the well-known comedy actor. Canon Hannay, who is better known by his literary pseudonym of George A. Birmingham, is the author of the comedy, "Send for Dr. O'Grady," in which Sir Charles Hawtrey was appearing when he died. He is also author of numerous novels, including "Tho Simpkins Plot," "Spanish Gold," and "Genoral John Regan."
