FIGHTING THE "FLU."
TO THE EDITOK. ' Sir.—As one who has had a goodly eharo of the misery caused by_ the influenza, I offer, with your permission, a suggestion to the public' which if carried out will bring relief to many. I have found to my cost that much of the trouble during an epidemic is the result of pati° nts > and tno3 ® likely to take it, gargling the throat with and sniffing through the nostrils those "patent cure 3," which in nine cases out of ten are tho best thing to hurry off irritation of the membranes and 'so, well establish tho germ. People get the idea that to prevent or cure a cold or.. influenza they must saturate themselves with "acids and fireworks." I have proved-for myself that all that is needed to prevent'the "flu' " from taking a hold is a goodly supply of lemons and a clean supply of water. For influenza lemons cannot be over-estimated. Drink the juice without sugar, that is the secret. (It may cause some to look, awry, but it does far moro than that to the "flu fiend.") Influenza, with many, is a matter of catarrh, and while this troubles thein they will have relapses. Get it out of the noso and leave such irritants as soda, salt, etc.. alone. Sniff up tho nose good, clean, tepid 60degs. water, also gargle as often as you can with this God given fluid. We become accustomed to that which wo have in plenty and so despise it, preferrng irritating trash. Water is the great purifier which Nature has given to man. It Jias that marvellous quality of absorbing all poisonous substances, liquids and gase},_ which touch its surface. It is the great disinfectant. It is the great, clear, cool, soother, and healer, given by Nature to man. Do we know all about this "Gift of the Gods?" Much has modern science yet to learn.—l am, etc., SIMPLICITY. August 20, 1923.
