FOOTBALL.

TE KAWAU SUCCESSFUL.

The first representative footboall match between Rangitikei juniors and Te Kawau juniors was played at Bulls yesterday. The ground was in good order and a good/fast open gamo resulted. Blue (Te Kawau) kicked off and play was in neutral ground, when Arnott intercepted a pass and after a short run passed out to A. Sanson. The latter, when approaching the full-back, kicked the ball and beating the opposition for pace, scored a try. The kick at goal failed—Te Kawau 3, Rangitikei 0. Green (Rangitikei) livened up and were attacking, when Murphy secured outside the 25 yards lino and potted a nice goal—Te Kawau 3, Rangitikei 4. Rangitikei still kept up the pressure and after a nice passing rush Fox scored at the corner, Murphy, kicking a beautiful goal—Te Kawau 3, Rangitikei 9. Te"Kawau then took a turn at attacking and were awarded a penalty from which R. Scott goaled— Te Kawau 6, Rangitikei 9. Soon after the ball was in play' Arnott marked in a handy position but the kick just failed. Not to be denied Te Kawau were still pressing and from a scrum near the line Howell secured and got over. The kick at goal was not Successful—9 all. Excitement was now running high and anticipations of a fast even game were being realised. Rangitikei worked the leather down field and after a nice run Fox again scored, Murphy's kick being wide. The spell ended soon after with the score: Te Kawau 9, Rangitikei

Tho second spell was hotly contested, but Te Kawau were getting die best of it. W. Chapman had a shot at goal from a free kick, but missed. Soon after Woodgate secured, passed to Scott, who passed on to A. Sanson who scored a good try. W. Chapman converted—Te Kawau 14, Rangitikei 12. Even play followed and from a scrum Chapman secured and passed to Scott who cut-in and then handed the ball to A. Sanson, the latter scoring in the corner. The kick at goal failed—Te Kawau 17, Rangitikei 12. Play was.now fast and exciting, the ball travelling from one end of the field to the other but the Te Kawau defence was solid. The final score came from a nice piece of. play, A. Sanson securing the ball and centring to R. Scott who picked it up and passed to D. Sanson on the other wing. The latter scored in tho corner—Te Kawau 20, Rangitikei 12. The game ended soon after. Mr T. Richardson mas in charge of the whistle.
