FLOOD PROTECTION WORKS
RIVER BOARD'S UNDERTAKING
At the last meeting of the ManawaluOroua River Board, at which were present Messrs R. T. Bel! (chairman), H. Wilton, !L Akers, M. V: Anderson. A. Soiferl W. S. Carter, "w. Smith and X. P. Nielson, the newly-appointed engineer (Mr |<'. (', Hay) was in attendance and reported thai the "preliminary survey work in connection with the flood protection scheme would lake three months to complete. A letter was received from a South Island engineering linn offering to carry out all excavations in connection with the hoard's undertaking at a fixed price per cubic yard, the linn agreeing to provide its own machinery and labour. The price quoted was a most satisfactory one. and it. was decided to communicate with the linn at a later date when the board has finally decided on some definite scheme.
