MEMORIAL PEACE GATES.

CEREMONY AT LEVIN

PRIME M'INLSTER OFFICIATES

Yesterday the peace memorial gates at Weraroa Park, Levin were opened by the Rl. lion. \V. F. Massey, Prime Minister, in the presence of a large gathering of residents. Mr Massey delivered a fine speech. his remarks dealing with the soldiers and their war record, and also matter- of Imperial importance. At the luncheon which followed, the Premier, in responding to the toast of his health, which was proposed by the chairman, Mr Thompson, gave a resume of the position of the Dominion both before and since the period of depression. Mr Massey was most optimistic in regard to the future, affirming that the proposed further reduction of £2,000,000 in taxation would help the country back to, its former prosperity. Later in the day. Mr Massey'opened the sports in connection with the forthcoming carnival. He was also entertained at the Levin Club by a number of citizens. A large crowd assembled at the railway station to bid him farewell, and prior to the train's departure Mr Massey expressed the hope that be would be able to pay a further visit to Levin in the near future. During the day the Premier was accompanied by Sir John Luke and Messrs J. A. Nash and J.Lmklater, M's.P,. the latter in his capacity of member for the district participating in the memorial ceremony and delivering a brief speech. Mr Massey's reception at Levin was a magnificent one and demonstrated his great popularity in the district.
