BUTTER AND CHEESE. A circular issued by the National Dairy Association shows the following cheese imports into Great Britain for the II months ending November 30:-

MARKET VERY IRREGULAR. (Par Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 1. The fourth wool sale was held to-day, 13,046 bales being offered. There was a full bench of buyers, and the catalogue included a fair proportion of back station clips. The condition was not up to the previous standards, a fair amount being seedy. Super wools of all grades; except coarse crossbred, mot with practically as good a market as January. The market was very irregular for all _ classes, blit buyers appeared to have elastic limits fol any lots outstanding in their respective grades, but stopped quickly when shabby lines were offered. The easing on January rates for medium qualities of all counts was from Id to lid, and for shabby wools from Id to Ifd. Pieces, bellies and fellmongery lines sold irregularly, in some catalogues being practically ■as good as at the January auction, and in others up to down. Competition was not So free as at past .sales this year, and American competition" Was practically non-existent. Home buyers and local mills took a big proportion of the finer wools. _ Continental buyers secured a fair proportion of coarse grades. The passings averaged between fifteen and twenty per cent. Following was the range of values;— Medium crossbred.—Super, 12d to 163 d; medium, to Hid} inferior 7id to 9d. Coarse crossbred.—Super 9id to Hid; medium, 8d to 94d; inferior to Tija, Merino pieces.—Firsts, I7d to 20id; seconds, -lid to 16id. Half-bred pieces.— Firsts, 14d to 19id; seconds lOd to 13id, Crossbred pieces.—sd to 73d. Merino.— Super 24id to 27id; medium 20d to 22idj inferior l7d to l&j-d. Corriedule.—Super, 21id to 23id; medium, 18d to 22d;' inferior 14d to 17d. Halfbred.—Super, 22d to 26d; ihediuin 18d to 21id; inferior 13d to I7id. Three-quarter-bred.—Super, 16id to 2l|d; medium. 12d to 14|d; inferior, 8d to Hid Looks.—Merino, 7d to lid,;, half-bred, 5d to 7id; crossbred, 3id to 6u. Bellies.—Merinos, lOd to 15^d; half-bred, 9id to 15id; crossbred, 6d to 9d; crlltchings, 5d to 9d. CHEAP POTATOES IN ENGLAND, LONDON, Feb. 26. Potatoes fell to 27s 6d per ton at Selby, the lowest for 54 years. They are expected to later reach £1 a ton,, owing to an estimated surplus of half a million tons,—A, and N.Z. cable.
