TERRIFIC HURRICANE.
FIRE DURING A STORM. WIND OF GREAT VELOCITY. LONDON, March 1. The Banffshire, bound for Sydney, encountered a terrific hurricane in the Bristol Channel. During the height of the storm a fire broke out in the forehold, where the cargo included 30 tons of dynamite. Ihe fire was extinguished, the ship docking at Avomnouth. . The American liner President Arthur arrived at Plymouth 18 hours late, owing to having: to heave-to in an Atlantic gale, in which the wind attained a velocity ot 120 miles an hour. The weather caused a remarkable change in the beach at Portland (Dorset), Ifishermen were able to examine for the first tune for half a century the remains of the sailing vessel Royal Adelaide, which was wrecked in 1872. Much gold is in the vessel and many sovereigns and Spanish coins, dated 1871, were recently recovered.—A. and N.Z. cable.
