HIGH VOLTAGE WIRES.
DANGER TO PRIVATE TELEPHONES. The member for Wairarapa (Mr A. D. McLeod) expressed in the House of Representatives a fear that when, the Mangahao power began to circulate earth-circuit telephone wires which were privately owned might ho rendered useless by high-voltage wired running close by and parallel to them. The Postmaster-General (lion. J. G. Coates) said that trouble might occur where telephone lines ran alongside Mangahao current before it had been through a stepping-down station. He did not think there was much need to fear damage after the current had been through
a transformer. The Government; did not intend to intoVfere with private lines without assisting the owners in some way. In general, the avoidance of interference would he merely a matter of arrangement between (ho department and the owners of such lines.
