CATTLE STAMPEDE.
STIR AT ROCKHAMPTON. ROCKHAMPTON, May 24. The- e we it' all the elements of a western round-up in the main thoroughfare of Rockhamptou to-day. A mob t>f mixed cattle was being driven across the main traffic bridge, when a cow broke away and charged a man riding a bicycle. The drover, with a fine display of horsemanship, got his mount swiftly between the beast and the cyclist, ami grasping the animal by the tail throw it io the ground. The cyclist fled precipitately, and the cow finally stopped In front of the Rockhampton (,?lub. Various methods, including the use of the lasso, failed to get the beast to rejoin the mob, and presently the other cattle came dashing back over the bridge. it appeared that they would got out of hand and into the crowded streets of the city. However, the two loaders fell, and those behind halted long enough to enable the drovers to regain control. The cow that caused all the trouble was eventually lifted into a delivery cart and driven away at the tail of the mob, which again passed over the bridge.
