IMPORTANT CHANGES PENDING. At the meeting of the Genera! Council of Education nt Wellington this week, Mr 11. McCallum, M.P., presiding, Mr J. R, Kirk (Gisborne) moved; the attention of the Minister for Education bo drawn to the recommendation of the council, made in June, 1919. ami subsequently endorsed by the Mon. Minister, to the effect that ‘if a Now Zealander bo appointed Director of Education ho should be given twelve months’ leave of absence in order to make a, study of education as established abroad’; “'I hat, as the education system of New Zealand will bo substantially modified by the introduction of the junior high school system, it is essential that at the earliest possible opportunity the director should, as recommended by the post-primary conference, held in May last, proceed to make investigations with regard to modern dovclopmenls in education in England, Scotland and Wales; and . “1-hat this visit should be made in conjunction with (he Imperial Education Conlerenco, convened for Juno next year by the Horae Government specially in the interest.'. of the Dominions, at which tho Home Government desires that each Dominion should send a representative directly connected with education, who shall taka a principal share in introducing- the various topics for discussion,”

Mr I. L. Weils (Auckland) seconded, and the Hon, D. i, Fleming supported the resolution, which was declared carried unanimously, with enthusiasm.
