NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION AND A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Strong exception is being taken by members of 'the A. ami I’- Association committee to the reported discussion at the National Dairy Association’s conference with reference to ilie privileges accorded to the delegates thereto and are of (he opinion that the other side of the question should now be placed before the public. This constant harping upon alleged grievances which have no foundation on lact is beginning to become wearisome, i'or many years'past the delegates to litis annual conference had the privilege of purchasing books of tickets, giving three admissions daily for four days at the show ioi the small sum of 2s 6d, equalling 2id per admission. In addition to lids privilege, the association, of course, had the free use ot the A, and P. lecture hall and committee room for their meetings, together with free gas and cleaning. !■ unitor, the A. and I’. Association has always welcomed the delegates at an annual reunion. Some two or three years ago the A. and P. Association committee, in view of the increased cost of running the show decided that the hooks of privilege tickets should at least he worth 5s and the telegates wore accordingly asked to pay the small sum of 5d each time they entered the Showgrounds. This ( barge was deemed, to be a terrible imposition and evoked storms of protest from delegates ai last year s conference, allusions being freely _ made u» the meanness and pinpricking tactics oi the A. and P. Association. Discussions took place between the executive ollicers ol both associations and an arrangement was made to issue a book of six tickets containing two per diem to be sold at the old price of 2s 6d, It being claimed that many of the delegates did not use the tickets on Thursday and Friday, the tickets were made up two for each of the first thiee days of the show. il now transpires that, delegates to the National Dairy Association, who happen also to he in the New Zealand Rennet (At., bid., wished to attend the annual meeting of that company on Tuesday evening in the lecture hall ol the A. and P. Association. Having used up the two tickets allowed for Tuesday, they objected to paying lor admission to a tree hall hunting live gas. Some of these gentlemen protested and were admitted free of charge. The fact that the executive of their association had made the arrangement with the A. and P. Association evidently carried no weight with liie rank and hie of this body, who were out to castigate the A. ami P. Association for their mg •■ardly methods, being evidently under the imprission that the shows can be run on iiir purely for their beuelit. These arc. not the only' privileges that are. extended to tin- Dairy Association, as many meetings are called during the year in the Palmerston North A, and P. lecture hall for winch no charge is made. It has apparently been taken for granted that the Manawatn and We.-t_ Const Agricultural and Pastoral Association exists for the especial benefit of the poor, starving dairy industry. That the A. and P. cone jnitteemen give much in tune, money and labour for the public benefit, oiten to their great inconvenience and detriment, is not for tiie moment considered, bet it again be plainly slated that the Manawatn and West Coast A. and P. Association is not a dividend earning or profit sharing concern, and the members of the committee look to the general public to support them in their endeavours for the public good.— ,] am, etc., 11. Y. LETHBRIDGE.

There was a further increase of Id per lb in the price of butter in Palmerston North to-day.

The Premier, the Right Hon. W. E. ’Massey, left for Wellington this morning after attending the National Dairy Show.

The death occurred on Wednesday evening at Wellington of Air R, It, Underwood, a well-known resident of that city. He was a member of the City Council and of the Hospital Board, and was also connected with many societies in Wellington. He was tin enthusiastic bowler, being secretary of the Newtown Bowling Club for ten years, secretary of the Wellington Bowling Centre, and secretary of the Dominion Bowling Association. The late Air Underwood was 44 years of age. In commemoration of the birthday of the Prince of Wales, who attains his 23th year to-day, a flag was flown on the Post Office, and several Government offices, including the Courthouse, observed a close holiday.

It will be noticed that Messrs Barraud and Abraham, Ltd., draw attention to the fact that they have secured the output of lucerne from the famous Ben Muiven Estate at Marlborough.
