FREEZING WORKERS' STRIKE.
CALL FOR FREE LABOUR. (Por Proas Association.) CHRISTCRUItCH, Juno 21. The latest development in the freezing workers' strike is a call by the companies for tree labour. They have appealed to all sheep-owners who are in a position to do so to como to the assistance of the companies by volunteering for work at the factories or assisting to procure the services of others. In a general statement issued to-day the representatives of the employers said: "The present appearances are to the effect that there is plenty of labour offering. The response to our advertisement has been much more satisfactory than was expected, and there is no doubt that the remaining stock in Canterbury can now be handled." It was also stated that killing was being carried out at every works in North Canterbury. The secretary of the Freezing Works' Federation, when interviewed, .said that killing to any extent was not seeing on in North Canterbury and he doubted it free labour would be obtainable. An oflieial of the Canterbury Union said that a good deal more was behind the strike than the reduction of the bonus.
