SCHOOL FOOTBALL.

HIGH SCHOOL 23 v. SCOTS COLLEGE NIL. The first inter-school football match to be played locally this season was witnessed yesterday, when the first fifteens of the 'Palmerston North Boys’ High School and Scots College, Wellington, met at the Showgrounds. The match resulted in a very easy victory for the local boys by the comparatively large score of 28 points to nil. The match was rather one-sided ( and but, (or faulty handling at times by the local team there would have been a still greater difference in the scores. Scots College were outclassed by the superior combination of the High School team, who forced the pace throughout and thoroughly merited their win. High School on (ho kick-off immediately assumed the offensive, and with a series ol passing rushes kept play in the visitors’ territory. High School s first try came from one of these rushes, Brophy crossing the line after the ball had been handled by nearly all the backs, lie narrowly failed to convert. Through their full-back hanging on to the ball too long when collared, Scots wore penalised in front of the goal posts, Brophy making no error with the kick. Scots showed no inclination to open the game up and High School with a series of passing rushes kept play in Scots territory, the ball rarely crossing the half-way line. From a passing rush Brophy, cutting in, passed to Bennett, who touched down in a handy position. The attempt at conversion was a failure. Another passing rush saw McSweeney score. 'Hie kick tit goal again failed. Just before the halftime adjournment Brophy kicked a splendid penalty goal. High School 15, Scots College nii. On resuming after half-time High School again assumed the offensive, hut erratic handling lost them at least one try. From a good opening by McSweeney, Bennett accepting a pass, scored. Brophy converted. A pretty bout of passing between Brophy and Palmer saw the last-named cross the line. Brophy failed to convert. Just on the call of time Bacey from a forward scramble dived over the line. Brophy converted, making the final scores; High School 28, Scots College nil. Air W. AleSweenev refereed.
