ST. HELEN'S HOME.

o, . MINISTER'S ADVICE ADOPTED. CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. After seemingly interminable delays, indications now point to the possibility of an early solution being arrived at in connection with the deadlock over the disposition of the money subscribed for the St. Helen's Home project. The committee of trustees of the fund, as at present constituted, met last evening and resolved to act upon tho suggestion of the .Minister of Public Health, the Hon. C. J. Pun-, which, in elfectj is that a roiuul-thc-table conference .should be convened with tho members of the old general committee, which has boon defunct lor some lime past. The sub-committee reported that the loyal opinion obtained on the status oi the trustees was contrary to that given by Mr Ongley, it holding that the objections raised on small technicalities in tho conduct of meetings would probably not hold good in a court ol i law. ; The object of tho trustees in deciding io arrange this conference is to endeavour to arrive at a common understanding, the outcome of which will bo a satisfactory settlement of tho vexed questions involved. it is interesting to recall that earlier i in the year the parties interested in tho I movement separately interviewed the I Minister and solicited his support. The 'Hon. .Mr Parr, however, adopted a nonj committal attitude, and while refusing to intervene, advised the parties in the terms indicated above. Since then several abortive meetings have boon held, with tho result that the Minisjterial advice is now to be acted upon.
