BRITAIN’S OBSERVANCE OF naval COMPACTS. NUT WAITING FOR RATIFICATION. VANCOEVEH. June 1. The lialliinore Sun publishes a statement bv Lord Lee, of Fareliam (First Ford of the Admiralty), declaring that the Admiralty is already taking; steps to carry out’ the Washington treaties despite' the fact that they are tinratified. Ihe assent ot the Hritish Dominions is required. and this may lie anticipated in the near future. Meanwhile the various compacts ol the naval treaty are being faithfully ! observed, and the Admiralty is accepting Lite monetary loss resultant on a strict adherence to the spirit of the : treatv, such as the cessation ol tin l ‘sale of ships to foreign Governments. The Admiralty lias also deliberately anticipated the ratilieatiou of the treaty by reducing its stores ol ammunition and by preparing capital ships for breaking up. Simultaneously, j it is reducing the personnel of the Navy to the requirements ol the loree as it will be constituted after the treaty is rat itied.
