AMERICAN RAIN STORM.

CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE, j I THIRTY-EIGHT PEOPLE KILLED. r f NEW YORK, Juno 12. r A rain storm of unprecedented violence ' ? overturned houses and uprooted thousands J of trees in various parks and suburbs, doing 1 thousands of dollars’ worth of damage, and ' resulted in the death of several persons and ' injury in many eases of a serious nature ' to more than ICO. Six people were killed by falling trees, and seven drowned 1 on bathing beaches. 'I ho ! 3 pilots consistently refused to fly because i of the high winds which made flight dan- ; gerous. One couple persisted and induced ■ the pilot to lake them up. The ’plane fell, r and the couple were killed and the pilot , dangerously injured. Later reports show that 38 persons wore ; drowned, apart from other deaths. All ■ occurred in Long Island .Sound, near the I t metropolitan district. Row boats, launches - and sailing boats cruising near Execution | ( Light were caught in the squall, many of j ■ them upsetting.
