SHOOTING OF A DETECTIVE

Detective Lambert, who was .shut while arresting Crossan for burglary, spent ascomfortable night, and appeared quite bright tins morning, lie is still in a serious condition, however. A statement made by Detective Lambert idler admission to die hospital showed that when Jury remarked that the revolver was not loaded, after it failed to discharge on the first occasion when pointed in the driver's direction. Crossnn lired a shot imo the ground. The detective said two or three times: “Don’t be silly. ’’
Crossan replied: “1 in desperate; I don I want to Jive.” lie ordered the detective to stand off. By Ibis time the directive had reached within a yard, lie made an effort to spring at Crossan lo get the revolver. lie managed to get hold of the
barrel, but ( mssan wrenched ibe weapon away.. Detective Lambert made another attempt- to grapple with Crossan, who shot him in the stomach.
Crossan appeared at the Magistrate’s Court links morning. Six charges were preferred against him, one of attempted murder, one of being in possession of a revolver, one of presenting the, revolver at Loo Jury and three of breaking and entering'. Accused was remanded for a week.
