The hearing of evidence was continued to-day by the recess Parliamentary committee (chairman, Mr F. F. Hockley, M.R.) set up to inquire as to what amendments of the Licensing Act will he necessary should national no-license tail to he carried in December next. Evidence was given by representatives of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association ol New Zealand, and the Associated ( bartered Clubs, while the Rev. John Dawson (secretary) gave evidence on behalf of the New Zealand Alliance, Connsol appeared for the. different interests concerned. Unless a good many more persons notify the chairman of their desire to give evidence, it is expected that the hearing oi the witnesses will he concluded about the middle of next week. The executive, of the New Zealand Alliance announces the acceptance by Mr W. E. ("Pussyfoot”) Johnson of an invitelion to help in the coming licensing poll campaign in the Dominion. The executive also resolved to urge the Parliamentary committee on licensing laws now sitting to secure two issues on the ballot paper so that voters might choose between continuance or national prohibition and that a new electoral roll be prepared in view of the tael that the ml at me last election contained over oWJtJ more names than there were adults in the Dominion. It was also resolved to inform the committee that the alliance is opposed to any extension of the three-year illicital between the polls or the redistribution ol licenses.
