MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon. before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., Bridget King (Mr Cooper) pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving a horso-drawn vehicle on the wrong Hide of Carroll street. Mrs Torstonson said that on November 19 at midday she drove her car down Carroll street from Featherston street. As sin l lurried into the street witness met defendant driving a horse and trap. Defendant did not appear lo be looking out for i radio and she was driving in the middle of the i'oad. Witness turned the corner carefully, but defendant turned her horse right across rhe car. Witness received a bruise on her shoulder from a knock made by the horse's head. To Mr Cooper: \Yitness was sure she sounded the horn on the motor before turn, ing the corner. She had been driving for six months. Witnessed first saw defendant driving in the middle of the road,_ and coining towards her at an angle inclining towards lhe (witness's) left side of the road. Evidence was also tendered by the police as to Mrs Torstoiison's tracks, which showed that she was well over on her correct side of the road. Horace Cleaver deposed that he saw the accident hnpp-Jii from behind the trap. Before the collision defendant was driving in the middle of the road, but slightly towards the left side, lie saw the car turn into the street with a big swerve, so that il had to swing back to the other Bide lo be on the correct side. The charge was dismissed.
