ACCIDENTS A FATALITIES.
CAPTAIN’S SUDDEN DEATH. IPer Press Association. I DUNEDIN, .April 5. Captain Bernech, a retired sea captain, formerly in, the Union Steamship Company’s service, died suddenly in the street last night. Ho was 74 years of age. A collision took place at Carterton ;on Friday night between a motor-oar driven by Mr L W. Knight and a buggy driven bv Mr L. W. Fail-brother. .Both were thrown out and sustained cuts and cruises, the buggy was smashed, to pieces, and the car damaged. . ■ . c , A man named William Andrews, 56 yoais old, wlio was admitted to_ Napier Hospital several days ago from Waimarama. attempted, it is alleged, to take his life a few evenings ago. Andrews appeared to be in ms normal state at the time, but suddenly produced a razor, and before, anyone interfere, slashed his throat. He inflicted a very severe wound. _
