(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Dec. 29. ..The ..Christinas' .'holidays in this distiict wore enjoyed to the fullest by young and old. Fine weather was experienc'd right through, and although the wind was a bit disagreeable r.l times, it was not really bad, imd did not du'tfipen the ardour of those who wished to enjoy their holidays in ‘ho open air : in fact it was ideal weather for outdoor sport and camping. . Contrary to the e-qiectations of many, who thought that. Clirisimas trade would suffer considerably this season by comparison with last, trade was excellent. All shopkeepers did a roaring trade on Christmas. Eve and not only so, but tlm trade {or tho whole of last ween was exceptionally good, and in most cases the takings were a ni^w.record. . Fbrtuiiatelv there were onlv a few patjents at the Otaki Hospital for Christmas; hut all who were in the institution iipept a happy_>timc,. receiving nice ((resents, while there was an abundance of Oiristmus cheer. The decorations were very nice. Christmas Day was a red letter day lo tho “San.” patient’. NWlv all H ,n patients were out of bcJ for the day, whtcli was a roal fctivo occasion. It was a very si'ccos’ful and bnppy time for the patients, who for the time boitu? for ,r ot all about “temperatures” and tlmir troubles, and gave ■themselves np to the full enjoyment of the jovous season. Perhaps the Otaki beach was n°ver better patronised than during the holidays. For months past everv available bed at the seaside resort has been booked, and during the past few davs about 100 people have been accommodated here alono.
