CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 18. Relatives of General Birdwood received a letter yesterday, dated Melbourne, .January 30, in which tho General says that he hopes to bo in Now Zealand in June.

“Nothing, however,” General Bird wood added, “in definitely fixed about my dates, etc., nor have I received definite sanction from India to make such an extended tour in this part of the world. But I hope ! shall bo permitted to see through what I know will bo a really pleasant time. 1 am refusing to make any definite engagements in advance, either in Australia or in Now Zealand, for my tour is being arranged by the Government, and naturally I do not like to make engagements which might conflict with official arrangements.”
