The new military hospital buildings at Pukeroa Hill, Rotorua, are now practically linished, and the contractor will hand them aver shortly to the Defence authorities. It is expected that the doctor’s house and nurses’ quarters will be completed about the end of February. Constable Ross, of the Sydenham police force, found himself in an unpleasant situation on Tuesday evening (says the Press). Complaint was made that an old man had indecentlv assaulted two little girls and a boy; and the constable proceeded to arrest the man, who lived in a house at the corner of Kingsley and Barbadoes _ streets, Sydenham. On entering the house, outside which a considerable crowd had congregated, the constable' found the old man in a very frightened state.. While he was being questioned, the father of one of the children, arriving home, learnt what had occurred, and immediately sought the old man, armed with a heavy piece of timber. The constable, however, seeing how bad the situation had become, locked up the house and so prevented the enraged parent from entering. Being thus hold up, the child’s father proceeded to smash the windows to pieces, and qlso the front door. The crowd had by this time divided into sides, and several lights occurred. Eventually the city police station was rung up, and the arrival of two constables resulted in the prisoner being taken to the lock-up in a cab.
