Dr Greig has resumed practice, comer Ward and Eitchett street. Mr Reginald Bagnall. formerly of this district and now of Auckland, is at present on a visit to Palmerston North. Lioutonaiit-Colonel D’Arcy Chaytor, C.8.E.,, C.M.G.. is returning by the Union Company’s Wahino, due at Port Chalmers about February 3. -- Miss E. M. Robb, supervisor of the New Plymouth telephone exchange, has been appointee! relieving supervisor or telephone exchanges for the North Island. Mr J. G. ,L. Hewitt, S.M. at Martou, and Mrs Hewitt left for Sydney by tho Moeraki on Thursday to connect with the Orsova for London. A Sydney cable says that the late Sir Edmund Barton’s funeral was an impressive Slate affair. Great crowds in tho streets paid their silent homage to the deceased justice. His Grace Archbishop Redwood, accompanied by tho Rev. Father Maillard, parish priest of Levin, will leave for San Francisco en route to England and tho Continent on Monday next. An old resident of Mastorton, in the person of Mr Samuel Wickenden, passed away on Thursday, at the age of_ seventy-nine years. At Wanganui this week the marriage took place of Mr Robert Brightly Stock well, son of Mr Stockwell, of Church Place, ami Miss Elsie Theodore Dustin, second daughter of Mr W. S. Dustin, of Wilson street, Wanganui. Mr Thos. Hobson, of Levin, has been nominated for one of tho highest offices in tho Masonic Order in New Zealand* that of Grand Z of the Royal Arch Chapter. The installation will- take place at Napier at thread of the month.

Mr F. D. Thomson, 8.A., chief secretary to tho Prime Minister, who was admitted to the Companionship of St. Michael anil St. George by tho New Year Honours, was entertained yesterday by his follow-secre-taries and congratulated on having achieved the special distinction.

The wedding took place at Mastorton this week of Lieut. Frank R. Hodge, son of tho Rev. A. Hodge, of Napier, and Miss Freda L. E. Redman, daughter of Mr and Mrs F. T. Redman, of Masterton. Lieut. Hodge is a member of the staff of the Hawke’s Bay Herald. A London cable says that Mr Lloyd George entertained the Princo of Wales at Downing street at a luncheon for the purpose of meeting Signor Nitti (the Premier of Italy). The Prince returns to Sandringham in a few days for shooting and hunting.

The Rev. Dr. Gibb, of St. John’s Church, accompanied by Mrs Gibb, was to have left Wellington for the United Kingdom by the Arawa to-day. The purpose of Dr. Gibb’s visit to the Old Country is to try to secure twenty Presbyterian ministers and twenty home missionaries for service in New Zealand.
