f Per Press Association. ■',., CHRISTCIJCUOn, Jan. 8. The seventh annual 'Dominion bowline, tournament opened this morning in excellent weather, the, day being sunny with a light breeze. Play commenced in the doubles tournev, 224 pairs competing. AUCKLAND, Jan. 8. The Auckland Star celebrated its jubilee to-day by a special issue giving the history of the paper and reminiscences of early days. The occasion' was marked by a presentation to Mr Henry Brett, the' founder and managing director of the company, and of a congratulatory address bearing the signature of over 300 present employees representing all departments. • NELSON, Jan. 7. At a meeting 'of the Hospital Board to-day Dr. Parr, temporary resident surgeon, reported that one typical case of pneumonic influenza was admitted to the hospital in a critical state on December 26. The patient died 15 hours after admission.

The Health Inspector, in his report for the month, stated that five cases of pneumonic influenza had been notified in the city, three of which were mild and two severe. There was also one case at Pangatoaroa.

The annual conference of the Australasian Students' Christian movement closed last night, 150 members being present. At the I'm a nee session the students promised £352 for work during the year. The next meeting will be held in the North Island.
