A Paris cable states that M. Clemoncoau has announced his willingness to accept the French Presidency. The friends of Mr W. I. Lovelock will regret to lean? that ho has been laid aside with illness. At present ho is confined to his home. A cablegram from Brisbane states that the' Hon. W. Lennon, Speaker of the Queensland Assembly, has been appointed Lii utenant-Gjovemor of the State. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin announces the death of Mr Robm-t Ilawkrdge, Director of the Dunedin School of Art. Deceased was a prominent Freemason, being Provincial Grand Master ol the English Constitution. Dr Truby King, accompanied by Mrs Truby King and daughter, arrived in Wel- *. .lington by the • Mooraki from Sydney this week. Dr. Truby King has been engaged in the United Kingdom and on the Continent for some time on work connected with child welfare. The death has taken place in New York 1 of Mrs Walton, vvifo of Mr Holmes C. Walton, who at one time resided in Palmersrou North, and who for ‘some years has been manager in New York for J. C. Williamson, Ltd. Mr Walton’s mother amt sister reside in Feilding. Mr Edward Reginald , Chudloigh, of Orongomairoa estate, near To Aroha, died on Saturday morning, aged 78 years. Mr Chudloigh formerly lived in Canterbury, whore ho had extensive land interests. He was also interested in property on Chatham Island.

At St. Paul’s Cathedral, Dunedin, today/’ tho .Venerable Archdeacon Isaac Richards, M.A., was consecrated Bishop of Dunedin. The ceremony, whjch "was a very impressive one, was performed by Bishop Julius, Acting-Primato. There were also present the Bishops of Wellington, Waiapu and Nelson, and a large number of clergy. At last night’s meeting of tho Oroua Lodge of Druids occasion was taken to say farewell to Bro. T. Lind, why is leaving .or Napier, and a motion was passed expressing appreciation of his services to the Order amt regret at his departure from the-district. Bro Lind is one of the oldest Druids in this district, and ho has boon largely responsible for the formation of the lodges at Foxton, Shannon, and Tokomaru, the latter being named after him.
